The Sun Devil stadium seats 75,000 people, preferably Sun Devils
and Sun Devil Fans. What better place to support the Sun Devil family than
dressing up in maroon, gold, or black, depending on the theme of the game, and cheering on the football to victory. This
is not only a place for the football team to perform and bring everything they
have worked and trained for to the field, but a place for the other
student-athletes to fulfill their commitment to a Sun Devil tradition of
support. Sun Devil athletics makes it very simple for student-athletes to
attend football games because admission is free of charge for them. The
athletic department is willing to meet student-athletes halfway by providing
this perk; all they have to do is show up. By supporting not only the football
team, but every ASU team, student-athletes have the responsibility of making
themselves available to attend these events. Becoming successful in this aspect
of a student-athletes life may seem simple, but with academics on the side, it
can be tough to get away and enjoy a soccer game or basketball game. It’s those
athletes who really succeed in supporting their fellow Sun Devils, for it is
not all about the individual but the collective group of athletes who share the
same obstacles. Because of the effort put in to be able to attend a football
game, Sun Devils athletes are very successful in this aspect of their university
life. To the performing student-athletes, support from other Sun Devils-
athletes or not- give them courage, perseverance, and confidence to get out on
the court or pitch or field and show their peers what they have been spending
countless hours in the gym for. The Sun Devil Stadium is just one place on
campus where student-athletes can practice on their support skills to continue
being successful in what they do. That is just the support aspect of the Sun
Devil tradition, the football players have a united vision for positive
achievement and making their dreams reality by preparing physically and
mentally for game days in the stadium. They take their focus from in the weight
room and from their practice fields and direct it into game mode to achieve success
for ASU. “It’s not exactly breaking news to say football is a popular sport in the
United States. People like it, a lot.” (Jay Beck, 2011) Thus football student-athletes
need to make it entertaining for their crowd, and how they do so is putting
everything they have into game time.
