Carson Student Athlete Center (ICA)

ICA:
The Carson Student-Athlete Center is probably attending at least once every day by every Sun Devil athlete. The countless services it provides for student-athletes from a weight-room to any tutor a student could need, the Carson Student-athlete center is the center of all athletics at ASU. To a student athlete, it truly is where the student is kept in the title “student-athlete”. It is where freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors, go to get their study hall hours for the week, to talk about their classes with their academic advisors, get help through tutors, meet with their coaches, visit with other student-athletes, and many other uses. Made up of 6 floors with two lower levels consisting of a Sun Devil weight room (where only Sun Devil colors are acceptable and allowed) and a physical training center, floor two is where the academics happen. The Sun Devil decorated computer lab and study center on level two is where a student-athlete can find a peaceful area to get done any homework with the resources of tutors and academic coaches. Academics are what keep athletes alive, without success in this area of life; nothing can proceed in their sport. It becomes the basis of a student-athletes career, and to ensure eligibility it is important to have a good relationship with their academic coach and the compliance center which is also located on the second floor. Success comes out of the student’s effort to maintain an eligible GPA for their major, without that the student-athlete just becomes a student until he or she gets his or her grades up. Because of the amount of support the athletic department provides for each Sun Devil, it makes it very hard for an athlete to fail academically, so the perseverance comes from the character of the student-athlete. Failure becomes quite evident when student-athletes choose not to pursue a goal GPA-wise. As student-athletes, they know a lot about goals and achievements and in the sport it works the same way as in school, it is something that must be worked for. Because this facility doesn’t provide the space for sun devils to perform, it still helps them succeed as student-athletes because of the important relationship academics has with athletics. The student-athlete center also contains a weight room that lead to the Tillman Tunnel, this weight room is where the training comes into play at the facility. The focus during weight lifting or cardio must be just as engaged as practice or performance, because it is what gets athletes to a physically performing state of body. Strength conditioning improve performance on the court, field in the pool, wherever, and spending two to three mornings a week there constantly increases ability to perform the best.
